The secret to achieving the perfect roast potato starts with the right potato. You need a starchy variety to fluff up inside while maintaining a crispy exterior. Maris Piper or King Edward potatoes are excellent choices for this recipe.

Roasting potatoes is an art that turns the ordinary potato into a culinary masterpiece, great to serve on its own or as an accompaniment. The high roasting temperature is key to achieving that coveted crispy, golden exterior while keeping the inside soft and fluffy.

Coleman's mustard

Recipe: Mustard Roast Potato

  • 1.5 kg of potatoes, cut into halves or quarters for larger ones

  • 30 ml of sunflower oil

  • 50 grams of Flora butter

  • 3 garlic cloves, gently crushed

  • 30 ml of Colman's English mustard

  • A pinch of sea salt flakes

  1. Preparation: Heat your oven to 220°C (200°C for fan ovens, Gas Mark 6). Boil a pot of salted water, add the potatoes, and let them simmer for 8-10 minutes. Drain and let them dry in the colander, giving them a shake to roughen the edges.

  2. Roasting: Pour sunflower oil over a large baking tray and heat it in the oven for 10 minutes. Then, carefully place the potatoes on the tray, adding the butter and garlic. Put in around two tablespoons of Colman's English mustard evenly and toss to coat the potatoes. Roast for 45 minutes, turning them halfway for even crispiness. Finish with a sprinkle of sea salt flakes.

Our Mustard Roast Potato recipe is more than a side dish; it's a symphony of flavours and textures. The mustard imparts a delightful zing, transforming the familiar roast potato into an extraordinary experience. Pair it with your favourite main dish, and it's sure to be a hit.
