A Taste of Mellieha: First Impressions and Wine Pairing
There’s a certain charm about Mellieha Square, especially in the evening when the golden glow of the Mellieha Church bathes the piazza in warmth. It’s here, right at the heart of it all, that you’ll find Dom’s Brasserie, part of Dom’s Boutique Hotel. We’d been hearing good things for a while, so naturally, curiosity got the better of us.

A warm welcome set the tone, and before we knew it, a bottle of Elementi Orange, Valle Reale was making its way to our table. This Malvasia and Trebbiano blend from Abruzzo had a crispness that made it an easy drink and a subtle sweetness hinting at dried fruit and honey. It was a versatile wine that could handle both the richness of our appetisers and the delicate seafood of our mains.

The evening started on an inviting note—a basket of warm sourdough and a small taste of pumpkin soup arrived as a welcome gesture. The bread was crusty, the soup velvety, the kind of small detail that makes a restaurant experience feel considered rather than routine.
Dom’s Brasserie Menu: A Blend of Local & International Flavours
Browsing the menu, it was clear that Dom’s Brasserie treads that fine line between comfort and sophistication. The dishes feel familiar, yet there are tweaks—unexpected touches that elevate them beyond the ordinary.
There’s a clear appreciation for local ingredients, with nods to Maltese cheese, seafood, and Mediterranean flavours woven throughout. The balance of hearty, well-executed classics and more delicate options means something for everyone, whether after a long, indulgent meal or just a casual bite.

Delicious Beginnings: Starters That Set the Tone
We started with Pork Sausage Roll with HP Sauce - and when we say roll, we mean big, chunky, and unapologetically rich. The pastry was flaky, the filling generous, and the HP sauce, with its tangy kick, provided just the right contrast.

Then came the smoked salmon rosti with Kale. This one was smaller than we wished because it was so good. The smoky salmon, the crispy rosti, and the slightly bitter Kale worked in harmony, proving that sometimes simplicity is best when executed well.

Hearty Mains: A Perfect Balance of Comfort and Elegance
For mains, the steak frites had us hooked from the first bite. Tender slices of perfectly cooked beef sat beneath a generous heap of crispy onions, which added texture to every mouthful. The peppercorn sauce was just right—bold without overpowering the dish.

The Duo of Fish, featuring Tempura Red Mullet and Poached Meagre, was a light yet flavourful alternative. A silky prawn velouté and a smooth potato purée elevated it. Both dishes felt balanced, neither too heavy nor too dainty.

Sweet Temptations: A Dessert Worth Sharing
By the time dessert rolled around, we were full, but the Sticky Toffee Pudding caught our eye. We decided to share it, but even then, we couldn’t resist finishing every last bite.
It arrived warm and dripping in butterscotch sauce, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that melted into the rich sponge. Sweet, comforting, and wholly satisfying, it was one of those desserts you don’t intend to finish but somehow do.

Dom’s Brasserie Ambience: Timeless Charm with a Modern Twist
Dom’s Brasserie manages to strike a balance between elegance and ease. The interior, housed within the original high walls of the historic building, speaks of a time when architecture was meant to last. There’s something about the simplicity of the space—unfussy yet inviting, a canvas for the food rather than a distraction from it.

While the main dining area is inside, outdoor seating is particularly welcome in Malta’s hot summer. Like other places in the area, it offers an alfresco experience, perfect for those who want to enjoy the piazza’s lively atmosphere while dining under the open sky.
Service was attentive without being intrusive, the kind of hospitality that makes you feel looked after without feeling watched. The team was knowledgeable, quick with recommendations, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food they were serving.

Our Verdict: Is Dom’s Brasserie Worth a Visit?
So, was Dom’s Brasserie worth the hype? Absolutely. It delivers a polished but unpretentious experience where good food, wine, and company come together naturally.
Whether you’re a steak-and-potatoes type or prefer lighter, more delicate fare, something here will leave you satisfied yet already planning your next visit.
If you’re in Mellieha and looking for a standout dining spot, Dom’s Brasserie deserves a place on your list.
