Love KFC but feel guilty about the calories? This Cosori air fryer chicken recipe will banish all those guilty feelings!
Kentucky Fried Chicken is well-known for Colonel Sanders’ secret recipe for delicious fried chicken. Indulging in a delightful KFC bucket of chicken is our guilty pleasure, so we were over the moon when we discovered the KFC spices mix.
Even more, were we excited when the idea clicked that this would work wonders in our Cosori air fryer. We were hoping for all the flavour for less of the fat.
We were delighted with the result. This Cosori air fryer chicken recipe works perfectly in the Cosori air fryer. All you need to do is swap the original deep-fried recipe for just a few oil sprays. Your cholesterol levels will thank you!
If you’re worried about the flavour, you will not be disappointed. It was hard to tell the difference between the original KFC bucket and the Cosori airfryer recipe.
The Original Variety Bucket contains 4 Original Recipe Pieces, 2 Original Recipe Strips, 4 Hot Wings, 2 Portions Fries, and 2 Portions Onion Rings. We decided to replicate this by using the same chicken pieces, which means 2 chicken thighs, 2 chicken drumsticks, half a chicken breast sliced into strips, and 4 chicken wings. We also added the fries and onion rings for completion’s sake.
The two components make this homemade Chicken Variety Box delicious with a much lower fat content: the right spice mix and buttermilk. The spice blend includes paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, celery salt, black pepper, dried mustard powder, ground ginger, thyme, basil, and oregano.
Those are the 11 spices which will completely transform how you make your chicken from now on. Using buttermilk for the coating enables the chicken to remain tender.
The best part of this Cosori air fryer chicken recipe is its simplicity. You’ll need your chicken, spices, buttermilk, flour, eggs, cornstarch, and chicken pieces. Mix the dry ingredients andliquid ingredients in a separate bowl.
Dip your chicken pieces in the buttermilk mixture and then in the dry ingredient mixture, lightly spray with oil and cook in your Cosori for 25 minutes. This is best eaten straight from the Cosori air fryer.
Let’s take a look at the recipe.
Ingredients
Chicken coating
240ml buttermilk
200g all-purpose flour
65g cornstarch
2 eggs
Olive Oil spray
Spices Blend
3 tbsp paprika
1.5 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp dried mustard powder
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
2 tsp celery salt
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dried basil
Method
Mix all the dry ingredients, i.e., flour, cornstarch, and spices, in a large bowl.
Mix the eggs and buttermilk in a separate bowl.
Wash the chicken pieces and dry thoroughly
Preheat the Cosori air fryer by using the preheat function on your appliance.
Dip the chicken pieces into the liquid mixture (buttermilk and eggs). Drip to make sure any excess is removed
Cover the chicken with a dry coating. Make sure the chicken is thoroughly coated with the dry mixture coating by pressing the blend deeply into the chicken pieces.
Spray the Cosori basket with oil spray (olive oil is our choice). We also like to spray the chicken pieces, covering each area of the chicken.
Cook chicken for 12 minutes at 180oC on each side. When turning the chicken, spray the chicken again.
The chicken is ready when it is golden brown.
We love this chicken recipe, one of our favourite Cosori recipes, and think it is comparable to a deep-fried recipe without excess fat. It is best served immediately, and we recommend sides of fries, onion rings, and grilled corn on the cob. Mashed potatoes would also work.
